The earthy red chosen for this Oushak area rug was favored by the earliest 15th century Turkish nomadic weavers, and provides a stunning background to a field of angular floral elements and stylized vinery. Odella's border containing small scale abstract representations of foliage also recreates the naive geometric forms and colors commonly used in Oushak carpets, noted for their extra thick yarn and large Turkish-style knots popular today for casual interiors.
